Active Learning in Higher Education
How universities can move from lecture delivery to evidence-producing learning cycles.
Traditional lecture delivery is efficient for transmitting information, but it does not by itself make applied capability visible. A modern active-learning model treats the class session as a sequence of orientation, practice, application, review and reflection.
The key design move is to define the evidence before designing the activity. A coding exercise, problem-solving challenge, peer review or exit ticket becomes valuable when it is explicitly connected to the intended outcome and assessed consistently.
For institutions, this creates a richer improvement loop: faculty can see where learners struggle, leaders can see which learning designs work, and students can understand what capability they are actually building.
